Big Sky Bandits
Artist Statement
Contrary to popular belief and current presentation, I don’t consider myself a photographer. After taking photos for well over half my life, I still get it too wrong to be confident that I can get it right. I prefer to remain a ‘creative that uses a camera as a tool for translating a message or feeling’ as it leaves more room for error... and error leads to growth.
While my camera assists my creative side, it’s also my confidant, therapist, and way forward. It’s something I hide behind and reveal myself through, all at once or not at all. Small in stature but mighty in action; with every look through the lens, I see the world anew.
Horses have been coined “the mirrors of human emotion”. By reflecting the energy we put into the world, they are capable of bringing us into our most present and authentic selves. This is where I strive to be and from where my best work comes.
About Big Sky Bandits
Britt Myers is a creative who uses a camera to capture what captivates her most, horses. As a native Oregonian, Britt was fortunate to grow up surrounded by nature and animals and feels most at home having them around. She relocated to Montana 8 years ago to pursue a life with horses, which she has done in various ways ever since. Through animals is where she finds her greatest motivation and inspiration. Toss the camera and creative aside, none of this would exist without them. Her works have been published in the New Yorker and National Geographic.
Don’t miss a thing from Big Sky Bandits
I was born to love animals.
Big and small.
Short and tall.
Any and all.
From hamster to horse to hawk to hound, each has played its own unique role in raising me. They have been and still are my greatest mentors in freedom, friendship, fortitude and fun; not to mention fifty billion other fundamental life lessons.
I’ve grieved & I’ve healed with them. I’ve sat & I’ve ran & I’ve played & I’ve rode & I’ve laid & I’ve danced the night & the day away & walked & talked & listened & watched & slept in the fields with them.
Horses may run this site, lest we forget, hamsters are the ones that started it.
Whether it’s bat or baboon, raven or racoon
Animals are my ladder to the moon
They are that patch of blue sky in gray scattered gloom during a sweet smelling sunday afternoon …
